Vintage Les Pauls are highly sought after by collectors due to their rich history, iconic status, and exceptional craftsmanship. Originally launched in the early 1950s, models from the late '50s, particularly the 1958 to 1960 Les Paul Standard, have become particularly valuable. Their association with legendary musicians and their role in shaping rock music adds to their allure. The combination of rarity, distinctive sound, and timeless design makes vintage Les Pauls not just instruments, but prized possessions that often appreciate over time.
Gibson's Custom Shop has painstakingly gone through and figured out what makes each '58, '59, and '60 tick, delivering a highly calibrated instrument at a fraction of an original's cost. From Gibson's website,
"1960 was the last year for the original Les Paul™ Standard, nearly identical to a 1959 model except for a few specs. Most notably, it features a fast-playing slim neck profile, beloved by the many famous musicians who played '60 Bursts including Eric Clapton, Joe Walsh, and Paul McCartney. It also has "reflector" Volume & Tone knobs and wider "double-ring" tuner tips. The Custom Shop 1960 Les Paul Standard Reissue is a clone of the originals from the hide-glue construction to the chemically re-engineered plastic parts. Each one is built with extreme care, reverence and attention to detail by expert Custom Shop craftspeople who are committed to providing an authentic vintage ownership experience."
